Puerto Fuego Opens in Barcelona’s Upper District

Puerto Fuego, the latest venture from Grupo Trapío located on Flos i Calcat street in Barcelona, offers Mediterranean cuisine centered on seafood, rice dishes, and charcoal grilling. With an average check of €40, the restaurant targets a diverse demographic in the city’s prestigious “zona alta.”

A Proposal Combining Mediterranean Produce and No-Frills Cooking

Barcelona, 8/01/26
Barcelona’s upper district welcomes a new gastronomic landmark with the opening of Puerto Fuego, a restaurant that blends the Mediterranean essence of the sea, rice, and open-fire grilling in a product-driven concept. Situated on Flos i Calcat street, this new space was born from the desire to reclaim the value of simplicity through direct cooking, where flavor takes precedence over formality.

The menu highlights fresh seafood platters—designed to be enjoyed by hand—made-to-order rice dishes served for the table to share, and premium cuts of meat and fish grilled with deep respect for the raw material and precise cooking temperatures. With an average ticket of €40, Puerto Fuego positions itself as a versatile venue catering to a wide audience: business executives during the week, families on weekends, and groups of friends seeking a relaxed communal dining experience.

The gastronomic concept sits at the intersection of classic seafood houses and trendy urban eateries, balancing elegance with approachability. This move responds to a growing consumer demand for authenticity and high-quality ingredients in more casual formats, moving away from the constraints of traditional fine dining.

Interior Design Reinforces the Identity of Sea and Fire

The interior design, executed by Elefante Studio, mirrors the restaurant’s culinary philosophy. The project utilizes warm materials, natural textures, and soft lighting to evoke both the power of fire and the serenity of the sea. The dining room is anchored by a large-scale mural installation that provides character, while custom furniture creates intimate corners that radiate warmth.

Visually, the graphic identity was developed by the creative branding agency Séptimo. They have crafted a cohesive image that bridges contemporary aesthetics with the visual codes of traditional Mediterranean seafood markets.

This synergy between gastronomy, design, and branding aims to create a recognizable brand experience, differentiating the restaurant within the competitive landscape of Barcelona’s upper district—an area characterized by a sophisticated clientele and a highly diversified food and beverage (F&B) offering.

Grupo Trapío Expands its Portfolio in Barcelona and Costa Brava

Puerto Fuego is part of Grupo Trapío, owned by the family-run firm Estram, whose roots in the hospitality industry date back to 1963. Today, the company is led by Jorge Gay de Montellá, a third-generation representative who continues to champion a hospitality model that fuses tradition, quality produce, and modernity.

In addition to Puerto Fuego, the group manages other prominent projects such as Mercader del Eixample in the heart of Barcelona—which will soon unveil a new design—and Llenya, a restaurant located on the Costa Brava in collaboration with a local partner. This structure allows the group to diversify its portfolio, combining urban concepts with regional, coastal-focused offerings.

With this latest opening, Puerto Fuego joins the Barcelona culinary scene as a Mediterranean destination that celebrates the raw product and the pleasure of sharing a meal, targeting those who seek the essence of authenticity and the distinctive flavor of the grill. The project reinforces Grupo Trapío’s strategy to consolidate its presence in Barcelona through differentiated concepts that cater to various consumer segments and dining occasions.
